Bigotry's last stand

Posted by A.H. on Sunday, April 19, 2009,

Marriage equality in Iowa

Posted by A.H. on Friday, April 3, 2009,
Today, the Iowa Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the ban on same-sex marriage passed a decade ago by the state legislature violates the notion of equal protection under the law and, therefore, is unconstitutional. Democrats defending civil liberties... Or are they?

Posted by A.H. on Friday, March 27, 2009,

We call on governor Lynch to sign the bill (if passed by the Senate). It would be a good sign that Democrats not only talk the talk, but actually walk the walk on civil rights and liberties.

Bigotry will not save Republicans

Posted by A.H. on Thursday, March 26, 2009,
It seems clear by now that Republicans haven't learned anything from their electoral defeats. Instead of reaching out to new segments of the electorate, party leaders and figures are preaching the same old divisive message to please a narrow-minded right-wing minority of extremists. The last example comes from Vermont, where Republican Governor Jim Douglas has said that he will veto a gay marriage bill, already passed by the state Senate, and currently waiting for a vote in the House. One wou...
